Operators are facing unprecedented challenges. Growth and profitability of their traditional business models are diminishing. Indeed, competition from other operators is no longer their greatest threat. 'Over-the-top' (OTT) content and application providers - Google, Apple and a myriad of others - are relegating operators to mere connectivity and their businesses into commodities. Operators must evolve.
This evolution demands innovation if operators are to survive and thrive. Innovation means identifying and serving new customer segments, deploying new connected devices, simplifying and personalizing access to applications and content, creating new business models, and enhancing their customers' experience. The bar has been raised on all of these fronts. Apple and Google are the new benchmark. Operators must evolve from access providers to experience enablers.
